Sleep & recovery
Make sleep boringly reliable.
Before buying another sleep gadget, protect enough time for sleep and make your schedule and environment work with you.
How much?
The American Heart Association's Life's Essential 8 materials advise adults to aim for an average of 7–9 hours of sleep. Individual needs vary, and sleep quality and disorders matter in addition to duration.
The high-value habits
- Keep wake time and bedtime reasonably consistent.
- Create a dark, quiet and comfortable sleep environment.
- Build a wind-down routine rather than expecting instant sleep.
- Be thoughtful about late caffeine, alcohol and heavy meals if they disrupt your sleep.
- Use wearable sleep estimates as trends, not diagnoses.
When optimization is the wrong answer
Persistent insomnia, loud snoring, witnessed breathing pauses, morning headaches or excessive daytime sleepiness deserve proper evaluation. A cooling mattress or supplement cannot rule out a sleep disorder.
